Piaget theorized that children learn through direct and active interaction with the environment. WebbMaria Montessori (1870-1952) Maria Montessori was the first woman in Italy to earn a medical degree. She had a huge influence on early childhood education. Her focus was to provide solutions for students with deafness, paralysis and mental retardation. She provided learning materials that met specific age group needs to help in development.
