Long-distance cycling on MTB and fat bikes is limited, because it consumes so much more energy. On a road bike you can go for an entire day and feel (relatively) fine afterwards. A decent ride on a MTB and fat bikes for me is around 30-40 km. With a road bike it's 60-70 km.
